How to Reduce Video File Size Using Adobe Media Encoderįirst, launch the Media Encoder application, then click the + icon to add your desired video to the queue. Alternatively, HandBrake is a free, open-source video encoder. Adobe Media Encoder is included with an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Let’s walk through how to compress a video file using two of the most popular encoders available - Adobe Media Encoder and HandBrake. The video that’s 30 fps doesn’t have to spread the bit-rate as thin because there are fewer frames per second! That’s something to consider when you have a video that’s 30 fps compared to one that might have 60 fps. So, as a result, it’ll likely look less compressed, overall.įrame rate also plays a big factor because bit-rate is essentially “data per second” being used. Both videos have the same bit-rate, but the 720p doesn’t have to distribute it over as much resolution. An example would be a 720p video at 8 Mbps compared to a 1080p HD video at 8 Mbps. You can actually get more mileage out of your video files with lower bit-rates if you adjust other settings, as well. Here are YouTube’s suggested bit-rate settings. YouTube suggests a bit-rate between 35-45 Mbps for most 4K videos and a bit-rate between 8-12 Mbps for 1080p HD videos. They also have recommendations for bit-rate. There, you can find specific specs they recommend, such as using H.264 for the video codec. If all this is a little confusing, YouTube actually has a help page with their recommended upload settings. Usually labeled Mbps, for megabits per second. But, generally, there are just too many factors for a “one size fits all” slider solution, when it comes to videos.Īs mentioned earlier, the best solution for smaller video size is choosing a codec that’s ideal for streaming online, combined with a medium-to-low data bit-rate. Some video exporters do simplify the process a lot, which is great for people unfamiliar with the in-and-outs of video compression. Which makes sense when you think about everything involved with a video file - frame rate, bit rate, codecs, resolution, audio, and file containers. So, why is it different for video? The short answer is: There’s just a lot more going on with a video. You just slide the Quality slider to a lower number when you save the image out. If you’ve ever compressed a JPEG image in Photoshop, you know the process is pretty straightforward. Why Is Video Compression Different Than Image Compression? So, you’ll likely go with a codec like H.264, combined with a medium-to-lower bit-rate. When you’re planning on uploading a video online, you probably don’t want a file size that’s going to take all day to upload. Some codecs are ideal for editing or finalizing your video - such as Apple ProRes - and others are ideal for uploading online - such as H.264. The codec is the type of compression applied to your video during the export. The video codec you choose is also important. The H.264 codec is ideal for editing your video. Bit-rate is set during the exporting process and, in most cases, a higher bit-rate will result in higher quality video, but the cost is a larger file size. Bit-rate is the amount of data the video uses per second when it’s played back. The main contributing factor for a video’s file size is the bit-rate it’s encoded at. So, let’s say you just exported a new video for YouTube, only to discover that the exported video is 20GB in size! (Not exactly a fast upload.) Obviously, most people aren’t going to be uploading 20GB videos, so what’s happening here? Let’s start by examining what makes video file sizes so large, then we’ll dive into steps for reducing file size (even by using free applications!). And, in many cases, it isn’t immediately clear why that is. If you’ve ever had to upload a video online, you know that video file sizes can vary wildly. Let’s discuss compression, bit-rate, and more. Understand how video file sizes get so big, and the software you can use to make them smaller.

So basically I am wrong and should get the best processor I can afford. I always thought a dedicated graphics card would aid the processing ie take some strain off and the match would be smoother. Soon as a game starts on later versions on my old i5, the fan starts going mad, the laptop heats up and the 2d jerks around. Just a lot kid leagues over a long period of time, with a smooth 2d match. 8gb is standard nowadays but no harm in getting 16gb if your budget allows. However the RAM is pretty straightforward. If you want long career game with high end graphics you will be paying more for a high end graphics card and high end processor. But you want to get a graphics card that wont be throttled by the processor. But want to play with 3d in full detail then spend less on processor and more on high end graphics card. So if you are not fussed about 3d then skip the graphics card and spend more on the processor. The better the processor the better the on board graphics is.īut if only play a small database and play small amount leauges for short career amd start over again. My processor usage never goes very high so i don't know what has the biggest impact on game speed or if there's a way to make it faster. I don't know if it goes worse later, i'm on my first season so far. Most processors have an onboard graphics processor which is good for 3d on low detail. If caffeine used to perk you up, but you now can’t feel its stimulating effects, you may be suffering with caffeine tolerance. This means more sleep debt, and more tiredness during the next day’s afternoon energy dip. Consuming caffeine too close to bedtime will make it harder to fall asleep and meet your sleep need. You can then schedule less-demanding tasks for this afternoon dip in energy.īe careful not to rely on caffeine to get you through the afternoon slump. RISE can predict your circadian rhythm each day, showing you the timings of your energy peaks and dips. While you can’t stop this from happening, you can make it feel better by keeping sleep debt low, and you can plan for it. So, if you’re sipping a coffee and feel like it’s doing nothing for you, it may just be because you’re in a natural dip in energy. But even if you’re not sleep deprived, you’ll still feel it - it’s a natural part of your biology. You’ll feel this dip in energy more strongly if you’re carrying a lot of sleep debt. We all experience natural peaks and dips in our energy levels throughout the day, with one of those dips being in the afternoon. This is the internal body clock that runs on a roughly 24-hour cycle, dictating when you feel awake and when you feel sleepy. You know that afternoon slump when you suddenly feel sluggish? That’s your circadian rhythm at play. The RISE app can tell you when your energy peaks and dips will be. The app then works out if you’re carrying any sleep debt and, if so, how much exactly. The RISE app uses your phone use behavior to calculate your sleep need, giving you a number to aim for each night. Working out how much sleep debt you have doesn’t have to be difficult. But if you haven’t been meeting your sleep need, you’ll have a lot of adenosine in your system, meaning you’ll feel the sleepiness effect of the chemical, even with caffeine in your system. And when you do sleep, adenosine is purged from your system, so you wake up feeling less sleepy, and the cycle starts again.Ĭaffeine works by temporarily blocking the adenosine receptors in your brain. When it reaches a certain level, you’ll feel drowsy and get the urge to sleep. It acts as a neurotransmitter, telling the brain when to rest, and depressing the central nervous system. That sleepiness you feel is all down to adenosine, a chemical that naturally builds up in your body all the time you’re awake. If you’ve been finding caffeine hasn’t been working for you, you may have been reaching for more of it each day, which has been keeping you up later, building up your sleep debt, and making you feel even more tired. In fact, one study found after three nights of five hours of sleep a night, caffeine no longer boosted alertness or performance.Įverything from your focus to your mental health to your physical performance will take a hit when you’re suffering from sleep deprivation. If you’ve got a lot of sleep debt, no amount of caffeine is going to make you feel more awake. It’s measured against your sleep need, the genetically determined amount of sleep you need each night. Sleep debt is how much sleep you owe your body over the last 14 nights. The RISE app can work out how much sleep debt you have. is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. That sucks, and for a five person studio to come back and launch this beauty? Well, that takes some doing. As a side note, your author did discover that the creators of the game had one of their other games stolen, and published by a different company, and has just recently relaunched it under their own name back in August of 2016. GIF via Alkeni’s Press Kit.ĭrifting Lands is available starting June 5th on Steam. As it stands, this game is still a 9/10 for me – simply because it’s doing something new, and it’s doing it really, really well. The idea of “Drifting Lands” neglects the actual drifting land part and doesn’t explain much about who you are and why you do what you do – with a little more investment in knowing more about the residents of your home station, I think this game would have another dimension that most shmups don’t cover. It’s difficult to find fault in this game, other than the extremely light storyline – in the version, I played, there wasn’t a whole lot of introduction before throwing you right in. With the level’s random generation, you don’t ever get desperately bored and the replay value is there. It gives a certain grace to blowing shit up on repeat and makes it feel just challenging enough for both the beginner and the expert to feel comfortable. For an early access game, this feels remarkably polished. This is the ridiculously pretty menu artwork, via Alkemi’s Press Kit.Īs shoot ‘em ups go, Drifting Lands has set a new standard in beauty and ease. Once you get the hang of the skill tree, you start to grasp things pretty quickly – something that doesn’t always go hand in hand with aesthetically pleasing games. The UI is intuitive and friendly, and even the menu feels like part of the game. The art drew me in from the start, but the easy mechanics kept me playing level after level. However, each level had a new and beautiful background and a variety of soundtracks, all of which were bangers. The environment was disorienting at first – with the style of the 2D graphics, depth-perception can be a struggle when you begin. The biggest thing that sets Drifting Lands apart from the crowd is how gorgeous this game really is. Isn’t this Skill tree gorgeous? I swear, it’s not that confusing once you get used to it. Spend your money wisely, and level up your finances and equipment by replaying older levels. You can customize the attributes of your ship too – but keep in mind that nothing gets done for free. That is, if you are using a helmet, you daredevil. You can also change the equipment on your ship by grabbing cargo when you see it during combat – this includes the type of gun, the multiple shields, even the helmet you are using. You unlock them through beating areas of the game and reaching new difficulties. Skills are definitely the most difficult and interesting part of the game, as once you learn how to use them constantly, they are your saving grace. Just like investing in any RPG, once you commit, there’s not much point in switching midway through – especially since your attributes and other cool skills you upgrade along the way don’t transfer. This was not a lie, as I bombed almost instantly with the Interceptor, and decided perhaps the Sentinel was a better idea for the remainder of the game. Each has a unique play style so you can adjust battle mechanics to whatever is more your speed, to an extent – in my case, I went with the Sentinel, which promised to limit the instances of me dying considerably. There are three main classes of ship to choose from: the marauder, the sentinel, and the interceptor. While it seems like a simple shmup from the start, it does have some intricacy to it. All you have to do is fly your ship, which sounds easy, right? Well, add in a bunch of enemy vessels with the capacity to produce infinite floating mines along with bosses and ranging difficulties and you start to find some complexity in your seemingly simple goal. Your goal is simple – survive and bring your resources back to your community, then take your cut. The game takes place in space, specifically in mid air above a broken planet, as you transport cargo to and from your home. Drifting Lands is a new 2D horizontal shmup with ARPG elements from Alkemi, a small independent games studio from France. Shoot ‘em ups aren’t normally my favorite, but I made an exception for Drifting Lands, solely based on the really gorgeous cover art and stills that I saw. And Drifting Lands checks all those boxes. Galerie Le Centaure closed at the end of 1929, ending Magritte's contract income. 12, where he published his essay "Les mots et les images", where words play with images in sync with his work The Treachery of Images. On 15 December 1929, Magritte participated in the last publication of La Revolution Surrealiste No. In 1929, he exhibited at Goemans Gallery in Paris with Salvador Dalí, Jean Arp, de Chirico, Max Ernst, Joan Miró, Picabia, Picasso and Yves Tanguy. He became a leading member of the movement, and remained in Paris for three years. An illusionistic, dream-like quality is characteristic of Magritte's version of Surrealism. ĭepressed by the failure, he moved to Paris where he became friends with André Breton and became involved in the Surrealist group. In 1926, Magritte produced his first surreal painting, The Lost Jockey ( Le jockey perdu), and held his first solo exhibition in Brussels in 1927. In 1922–1923, Magritte worked as a draughtsman in a wallpaper factory, and was a poster and advertisement designer until 1926, when a contract with Galerie Le Centaure in Brussels made it possible for him to paint full-time. The work brought Magritte to tears he described this as "one of the most moving moments of my life: my eyes saw thought for the first time." The paintings of the Belgian symbolist painter William Degouve de Nuncques have also been noted as an influence on Magritte, specifically the former's painting The Blind House (1892) and Magritte's variations or series on The Empire of Lights. Also during 1922, the poet Marcel Lecomte showed Magritte a reproduction of Giorgio de Chirico's The Song of Love (painted in 1914). In 1922, Magritte married Georgette Berger, whom he had met as a child in 1913. įrom December 1920 until September 1921, Magritte served in the Belgian infantry in the Flemish town of Beverlo near Leopoldsburg. The paintings he produced during 1918–1924 were influenced by Futurism and by the figurative Cubism of Metzinger. He also took classes at the Académie Royale from the painter and poster designer Gisbert Combaz. During 1916–1918, he studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, under Constant Montald, but found the instruction uninspiring. Magritte's earliest paintings, which date from about 1915, were Impressionistic in style. Supposedly, when his mother was found, her dress was covering her face, an image that has been suggested as the source of several of Magritte's paintings in 1927–1928 of people with cloth obscuring their faces, including Les Amants. According to a legend, 13-year-old Magritte was present when her body was retrieved from the water, but recent research has discredited this story, which may have originated with the family nurse. Her body was not discovered until 12 March. On 24 February 1912, his mother committed suicide by drowning herself in the River Sambre at Châtelet. Little is known about Magritte's early life. He was the oldest son of Léopold Magritte, a tailor and textile merchant, and Régina ( née Bertinchamps), who was a milliner before she got married. The Pathless emphasizes player choice and immersive world design, but on a much more bite-sized scale. Any exploration that comes after is the icing on the cake. Review copy of game provided by publisher. If The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwas too daunting in scope for you, The Pathless will be much more appealing. It has that “just one more” element to it that will have players trying again and again it completion. It made me think, made me curse, and made me smile in mostly all the right ways. The combination of all the fruits and veggies really gave way to an experience I thought was originally going to come off extremely tame or very basic, and instead I walked away absolutely delighted and charmed. Otherwise I found an extremely enjoyable and unique title. The interface is a little basic, the story is throw away, and at times and the screen tearing can drive me absolutely bonkers when it happens. The gameplay which I would say is part platformer, part destruction, part puzzler, all feels rather well done. All this combined is what truly makes this title stand out. Being able to change the elements of land and water the player is navigating is fun, and the developers realize this as the levels get more complicated and require more outside of the box thinking in order to reach the exit. It’s these elements that absolutely surprised me, and at times floored me with excitement. See an area with water above it? Blow the bottom out and watch the water rush and flow realistically into the areas below. What also adds to the fun and mayhem is that the levels are physics based, so cutting through the environment can send it toppling over. Using the different abilities is where the fun comes in, like flooding areas to swim to new locations or an area that wasn’t reachable. As players might have noticed, each one has different uses, and as they are unlocked, eventually have to switch between their various abilities to find ways to progress in the levels.Įach level is broken down in sort of a challenge in how to get to the exit portal. The carrot can climb surfaces, shoot explosions, and burn stuff. The kiwi can shoot water, flood areas, and swim. Using the cherry, it can shoot dirt from the ground at enemies in a constant stream or dig through the environment. Here players have direct control of various fruits as they attempt to escape areas that offer various levels of challenges. It has some very minor ways it relates to those in similar looking level designs, but it’s a completely different beast. Looking at screenshots for this game, one might think It appears to be a worms type of caliber strategy game. Touché Organic Panic, I pegged you wrong from the start, and you’re some of the best time I’ve had with veggies in a video game. Sometimes they are monumental disappointments, other times surprising hits. The best part about reviewing games, especially indie titles, is that I might never know just what to expect or how they will turn out. I’ve never heard of this, no one seemingly has any idea what it’s about, so I decide to go for it. It talked about needing a reviewer for a game called Organic Panic. So I’m sitting at my desk one day and I get an email from my EiC. A fruit and veggie combo platter to die for.
